Peace is not passive, it is mental clarity and compassion in action. Your healing not only benefits you and everyone you encounter, but it helps you make better and more humane decisions in a rapidly changing world. Personal healing is important, but collective healing is also critical. Human beings do not live in a vacuum, our interconnectedness is what gives us the opportunity to thrive. It definitely helps the world when we heal ourselves, but we should also find ways to do our part to support movements for a better and more just world. When people move together around a common cause, history changes. It is easy to recreate the harm that has happened to us if we never take the time to process it in a healthy way. This is why your healing is a gift to the people who will cross your path in the future. The same way it is to your personal benefit to not harm others, it is also to your personal benefit for others to be safe from harm and have their material needs met. When more people can truly flourish, the shared happiness of humanity will also increase. The mental clarity that comes after healing helps us engage more deeply with complexity, which is what we need to understand the issues in front of us so we can substantially decrease direct and indirect forms of harm. Sending love to all. 🙏🏽🌎 #yungpueblo

I don’t think I’m supposed to love my body all the time. It’d be a pretty fucking boring life if that were the case. I learn more on the shit talking days than any other time. I think the ups and downs are there on purpose. Mine is not the #yoga of “always love your body”; mine is the yoga of “accept today exactly as it is.” It’s easy to spin a #fat kid who doesn’t hate herself into a billboard for never-ending self-love, but looks can be deceiving and I’m sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not my ministry. On the other hand, this @sportsillustrated @enfuegonow video is a very humbling thing to watch today, the night before I turn 33. It’s been a good year and maybe 33 is the year I can stop feeling embarrassed about the good things that have come to me. The yoga practitioner in me is deeply skeptical of my success- it knows this path is my truth but it also knows that fame is a drug and Narcissus fell in the water for a reason. Teaching yoga is a career and it is not all that I am. My true teacher is just trying to teach me and no one else. I am only ever making space for other people to find their own teacher. Anyway, this is neither here nor there- the ramblings of a seeker, I suppose. In any case, shout out to the SI editing team for sourcing these images of me accepting my @shortyawards & my disrupter award at @tribeca + teaching at @popsugar @popsugarplayground- these are really nice memories and I’m grateful.

There are a lot of new folks here, welcome to the community! My name is Alexandra. Alex for short. And I’m the person behind this digital space. I’m a wife, mother of 3, author, and facilitator of self-care writing practice. Thank you for being here. . . I wanted to share a reflection w/ y’all about making space to see ourselves. . . Yesterday, when the house was quiet and everyone was napping—including Ryan, I put on a dress, wrapped my head, grabbed my camera and took some self-portraits. A stunning photo of @latonyayvette inspired me to do so. . . I haven’t done this in so long. Photography is a hobby of mine that I love deeply. Making space to capture and see myself feels really important to me lately. Making art, writing for pleasure and not a new book, course, or project, dressing up—even if there’s no where to go—all of this deserves my attention. I deserve my attention. . . I’ve been pushing that to the side recently. Since the onset of the pandemic, I’ve been engulfed with my work, raising kids, making necessary time to nurture my marriage, building my businesses, trying to keep the house kinda clean…AND WOW I’ve completely shoved myself to the bottom of my list. Ryan reminded me to make room in my schedule for rest and days off—and to remember that just because I work for myself, that doesn’t mean I must work around the clock. . . I’ve been leaning into self-care as community care a lot more these days. Taking care of me so that I can fully, authentically, and intentionally show up in my roles and relationships. Mama is tired—and mama is worthy of seeing herself from a lens of ease. . . To all the caregivers and business owners and educators—I see you and feel you. Don’t forget to bring yourself back to the top of your list. ❤️ . . Community: How are you bringing yourself back to the top of your list?

Nedavno se udružila sa Insight Timer. Oni zajedno nude meditaciju pod nazivom “Ponovno centriranje u vremenima neizvjesnosti”. Za 10 minuta Elle uvlači svoje slušaoce u priču i podsjeća ih da “ne možemo uvijek da kontrolišemo šta se dešava izvan nas, ali uvijek možemo da dođemo do daha”.

I am a big proponent of self-compassion *and* I’m a big proponent of self-accountability and personal responsibility. These get to co-exist. In fact, when we allow them to co-exist, we tend to be more likely to show up fully for the things that matter to us and to our world. More than anything over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten so many questions about how to hold ourselves with compassion without letting ourselves off the hook (in relation to SO many things). Self-compassion actually makes it more likely that we will be able to take responsibility because it creates an anchor in ourselves — a secure base — a safe place to return to, all of which make us more likely to be willing to engage fully while knowing we won’t do it perfectly. Here are a few examples of what an inner dialogue of self-compassion and accountability might look like. There are no scripts for this — only an intention to practice so we can show up in the world in the ways we want to, in ways that align with our values, and in ways that support our humanity and that of those around us. I hope this sparks some ideas on how self-compassion makes it easier to take risks and try, even when we won’t always get it “right”. Perfection was never the point. Take good care, my friends. 🦋 . *Note: someone brought to my attention that ‘blind spot’ is ablest language and I overlooked that! A more inclusive way of saying this: “I missed the mark there” or “my implicit bias came up in that situation.” Not deleting with the hope of sharing in learning. I appreciate the feedback! 🙏🏻

If you all have been following closely, you know by now that racism has detrimental affects on the mind, body, and soul. There is so much work to be done in the world to address this public health crisis — It’s sickening. But as long as there is life in our bodies, we must continue to fight for justice — for ourselves and for the next generation. In order to do so, you have got to #bewell and stay well. ⁣ ⁣ Tonight, I’m excited to take part in @sheamoisture #thisonesforthepeople at 5pm EST in a conversation with @dr.thema as we discuss racism-induced trauma and ways to, ultimately, cope. I hope you walk away from this conversation understanding the true value of YOU and confident in ways to enhance those areas in your life that keep you uplifted. That matters. I’ll break that down tonight. ⁣ ⁣ Sign up to take part in the conversation in the link in my bio and invite three people you want to offer these 💎 to.⁣ ⁣ K E E P • Y O U R • H E A D • T O • T H E • S K Y ⁣ #askdrjess
